Satellite Cartography
guest speaker: Sofie Kay Hulgaard
What will we see when we look at the night sky in the future? As satellite launches increase, Earth’s orbit is becoming more saturated, making stars harder to see. This form of light pollution has consequences far beyond visual loss: it affects ecosystems, disorients animals, intensifies resource extraction, and risks erasing cultural connection to the stars built through constellations and storytelling.
We will read A Satellite Map of 2040, a soft sci-fi attempt to map the future sky. We will also create our own satellites through writing invitations, reflecting on possible futures of orbit, light, and loss.
