LOCAL POETRY MONTHLY

poetry workshop & swooning over words

Next meetup: Saturday, March 9th

from 12:00
Venue: SUPeR bookstore

In November we started a LOCAL POETRY MONTHLY, a get-together for lyrical sympathisers with well-versed sensitivities, a poetry punch moderated ever so slightly by Dave

”This group can be whatever we want it to be. We’ll bring poems we admire, share our thoughts, our process, and also what we’ve been writing. There will be writing prompts, we’ll bring our favourite poets to the table, and we'll see what we can create. All with love, solidarity and hot coffee.”

JEWELRY WORKSHOP

make your own pendant/charm

In this workshop, you will be diving into the world of jewelry design and creating your very own piece, where the focus will be on fine silver (999) pendants/charms.

Arta uses silver metal clay, a material made from recycled silver particles, binder, and water. It can be shaped and textured before firing it, which turns the clay into silver.

After an introduction to the clay and jewelry design, you will get the chance to work with it yourself. You will be guided through the whole process, so no experience is necessary. Arta will take the clay creations to her workshop where they will be fired at a high temperature and turned into ✰*✰SILVER ✰*wow!*✰

You will receive your handmade piece with a complimentary sterling silver (925) necklace after one week (pickup at the bookstore).

See you there!

*The price includes all the tools needed for the workshop, as well as the pendant and necklace for you to take home.

Complimentary coffee/tea and snacks.

workshop // 3rd edition

Discover the Art of Linocut Printing!

Dive into the world of linography and create your very own prints on various paper types.

The linocut is an old-school printing technique that emerges from xylography but instead of using wood, a linoleum plate is used to carry out the engraving. To make a print, ink is applied to the surface of the prepared block and then transferred under pressure onto paper. The print is a mirror image of the linoleum block we engraved.
During this workshop you will learn the art of linography and create your prints by exploring different papers.

No previous experience is required, you will be guided during the whole process. All materials are included in the ticket.

UNTAMED OPEN MIKE

open reading w. Javier

20/04

Venue: SUPeR bookstore

Read into a whispery microphone, read a poem, a line from your diary, a dream, read that letter, your song lyrics or, better yet, sing them, read from your work-in-progress novel.

“Call it a jamboree. Yet, let's make it verbal. The mic is open for those who reach for it. The suggestion is to read a text (any genre) or improvise on the spot. We encourage you to bring works of personal authorship.
However, if you would rather read a most cherished fragment from another writer, that works, too.
Or maybe you just want to tell jokes, even a string of punchlines. The time cap is seven minutes per person, but we won't count too strictly.”

MOON ASTROLOGY WORKSHOP

w. Wiola

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆⋆.˚ ☾ .⭒˚₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖₊‧⁺˖⋆⋆..⭒˚₊☽₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆⋆.

The Moon impacts us deeply, it controls the ebb and flow of the seas and touches the rhythms of women’s bodies.

In Astrology, the Moon embodies our emotions and innermost responses.

A reflective tool, astrology sheds light on our internal state and external circumstances. Its purpose is not to label individuals, but to provide guidance and advice. By analyzing our horoscope in terms of who we are becoming, rather than who we are, we can use it as a recipe for a more fulfilling life.

This workshop brings more understanding of one of astrology’s key elements: the Moon.

We will learn to interpret the sign and house positions of both the natal and progressed* moon and explore the twelve zodiacal archetypes and the significance of each house and how these relate to the Moon.

*Why should we care about The Progressed Moon?

The Progressed Moon holds great predictive significance in astrology. It adapts to different signs and houses, allowing us to experience personality traits distinct from those indicated by our birth configuration. The house activated by the progression becomes particularly influential during a specific period.

Furthermore, the progression of the Moon influences the types of people we attract. For instance, when the progressed moon enters Scorpio, we may draw individuals with intense personalities, potentially leading to power struggles. In the Sagittarius phase, we may attract travelers, teachers, foreigners, and independent thinkers, inspiring new adventures, or educational pursuits.

I am curious: what does it mean to be critical?

open forum / live talk

Wednesday, 13th of March we’re hosting a talk/conversation about what it means to be critical. Does it just mean being negative? Isn't it just overthinking? Why even do it?  What on earth is cultural critique? What is critical thinking? These questions and many more are going to be up for discussion.

with two critical types: Macon Holt of Passive-Aggressive Journal and Anna Ullman, formerly of Information.

The second of a series of talks hosted at the bookstore, not a how-to, but more of an open forum on various subjects of interest with a solid but soft core: libertas philosophandi and a genuine curiosity about others, their practices, their ways of doing, what we can do together and learn from each other.

It’s a serious series, in the only way seriousness can be approached: lightly.

“Learning how to think really means learning how to exercise some control over how and what you think. It means being conscious and aware enough to choose what you pay attention to and to choose how you construct meaning from experience. Because if you cannot exercise this kind of choice in adult life, you will be totally hosed. Think of the old cliché about “the mind being an excellent servant but a terrible master.” D.F.W

TAROT WORKSHOP

another kind of story-telling

Sunday, 18th st of February, 11-14

Venue: SUPeR bookstore

Once scorned and celebrated, Tarot faced criticism and admiration alike. From being condemned as a dark tool to being hailed as a mysterious revelation, it endured persecution and adoration. Eliphas Levi, French writer, and the author of "Transcendental Magic," when asked which book he would take to prison, declared that it would’ve been a Tarot deck. In Tarot, he believed, lie all the keys to understanding the laws and principles of the universe, and within its cards, one finds stories unmatched by any writer's imagination.

Every time I lay out the Tarot cards, I am amazed by the accuracy of their symbolism. They serve as a starting point for profound discussions about all life’s aspects- beauty, limitations, fears, and anxieties inherent in our existence. These mysterious images inspire honest reflections, discoveries, and transformations.

In this workshop, I want to to share my knowledge and experience with you. Together we will explore the art of tarot reading with hands-on practice, decoding symbolical messages, and mastering tarot spreads. After this workshop, you will be know how to interpret tarot cards, use them as both the meditation or divination tool and learn what it takes to become fluent in Tarot symbolic language.  - Wiola

No prior tarot knowledge required.

The workshop includes:

a networking/open discussion session from 13.00 to 14.00 - optional.

booklaunch + ARTIST TALK +FESTIVE FUSS

w. Lea Rasovszky, Giovanna Alesandro & Magdalena Jugo

DIG THE INBETWEEN, an apocalyptic but fluffy artist book, a simmering song to inner thoughts said out loud, a conversation with friends, a bilingual (RO/DK) lyrical painted picture of the inbetween, consisting of a personal selection of Lea Rasovszky's works from 2010 to 2016. Conceived in collaboration with curator Diana Marincu, it does not follow a predictable chronological order, but consists of a poetic intrusion into the subject.

the whole team that brought this book to the neon greener grass will be present to talk about and drink to  marginal publishing, artistry and the inbetween.

Lea Rasovszky lives in a universe of contradictions, and her art challenges you out of your comfort zone. Dig the Inbetween is a work of marginality and fragility, of rebellion and brutality, the soft kind, subjects explored both through illustrations (painting, drawing, sketches) as well as the artist's poetic imaginings. Her texts reuse the poetry from an inner flow.

Lea Rasovszky lives and works in Bucharest. She is interested in marginal cultural subjects, from areas such as kitsch, manele, non-conforming bodies and individuals, and "psychological peripheries" that are not purely social. Her artworks are most often portraits of people, situations, and emotions in motion, filtered through an ironic and raw drawing style paired with installations that highlight the stereotypes and values of the society of which she has a critical view.

FLASH FICTION

intro workshop

Sunday, 26/11

14:00 - 17.00

Venue: SUPeR bookstore

Through text experiments, you will be introduced to the literary genre of flash fiction and the art of writing very (very!) short prose. Anything can be a story if you want it to be - sometimes even a single sentence.

This workshop is for you if you are curious to discover a new literary format, experiment with tone and genre, learn new writing tools, or just want to have fun writing. It doesn’t matter if you’ve written a little, a lot, or not at all, only that you are curious. Bring pen and paper (sorry, laptops!).

Randi is a Danish script and prose writer. She insists on the small and insignificant, that’s where the poignant stories lie. As a reaction to long development processes in the film industry, Randi turns to flash fiction as a welcomed distraction. Like scriptwriting, flash fiction is all about saying as much as possible using as few words as possible.

live author session with Elizabeth Winkler

Shakespeare was a woman

In 2019, Elizabeth Winkler wrote an article in The Atlantic about the theories concerning the actual authorship for the body of work that is attributed to Shakespeare. It wasn’t something stiff scholarly types took kindly, so she wrote a book.

Part mystery quest, part make-your-own-adventure (i.e. see the facts, or lackthereof, and draw your own conclusions), if you’ve lived your life unaware of the theories about who actually wrote Shakespeare, this book will open up a new world of controversies and mythical stories.

Shakespeare Was A Woman is also a book about our modern society (angry men online!), what stories we value, and maybe more importantly whose stories we call history.

NOTES ON BOOK DESIGN

book launch + meet the authors

Notes on Book Design Is a collection of 50 texts written by designers Siri Lee Lindskrog and Amanda-Li Kollberg of graphic and type design studio Formal Settings based on books from the collection of Hopscotch Reading Room in Berlin.

The book is published by Onomatopee and a limited amount of copies will be available for sale.

“Choosing a different book as the subject for each text, our main focus is the visual and tactile aspects of books—materials, format, typography, binding, etc. Our aim is to understand the role and potential of books, seen through a design lens—mapping what they communicate through their physical form.”

The texts draw parallels between the book as a design object and the cultural movements, political landscapes and economic conditions under which it was created.

Formal Settings will give an introduction to the book, followed by a reading.

Last year we did it as an experiment with

radical objectivity // accidental aesthetics // poetics // doing what you want //

Now we’re tweaking it. To begin with, it will run as one-off meetings, like SIN. Eventually it will be more focused on specific projects (your very own!) and run over the course of some months, with group meetings twice a month, one-to-one meetings and virtual feedback and homework. Kinda like a school. But also not.
