Here I am making a big fuss because I love her words and she’s coming to town as a SUPeR special guest: Ella Frears, one night only, for a reading (from Goodlord), and a chat, and questions, and all that’s good(lit!). Friday, April 25th, doors open at 18:00.
(Goodlord) is the kind of book I would have liked to burrow inside and slowly sip all the words. I was dragging it with me everywhere or maybe it was the other way around, it was dragging me around, taking me out, making me reappear in the world. ()
An email (if you take it from the cover), and also a novel, and also poetry, and also blue sky interjected by some crazy blizzard, only to come back to calm. A speedy punk odyssey. It’s an anger. Whether it escapes categorization or not, it’s a really swell and surprising read.
Ella Frears is a poet and artist based in London. Her debut collection, Shine, Darling, (Offord Road Books, 2020) was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation and was shortlisted for both the Forward Prize for Best First Collection, and the T. S. Eliot Prize for Poetry. Goodlord, (Rough Trade Books, 2024) her new hybrid work which takes the form of one long email to an estate agent, is shortlisted for the Forward Prize and the Sky Arts Awards’ Times Breakthrough Artist of the Year.
